Lake Forest Sidewalk Project
Project Details
The City of Hudson is planning a new concrete sidewalk along Lake Forest Drive (Boston Mills Road to Essex Circle). The proposed sidewalk on Lake Forest will tie into a future asphalt trail that will be on the north side of Boston Mills Road and Lake Forest Drive and end at the existing sidewalk at Essex Circle. Construction is anticipated in late 2025. There will be no cost to homeowners for the construction of these sidewalks.
Project Costs
5’ Concrete walk and Improvements = $350,000
Public Engagement
The City held a public information meeting on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 where staff was available to answer resident questions.
Individuals can still leave their comments or questions in the Questions/Comments Section below. Written public input also can be submitted through the mail: Attn: The Engineering Department, Hudson City Hall, 1140 Terex Road, Hudson, Ohio 44236.

Share I did attend the information meeting on 3/6. First, I support a sidewalk on Lake Forest Dr. It would be long overdue. I have 2 areas of concern. 1. I strongly believe the sidewalk should be all on the East side of the road. Having it on the West side of the street for just 3 houses doesn’t make sense. I understand the “line-of-sight” reasoning relative to the corner of Lake Forest and Boston Mills but, once the sidewalk/path on Boston Mills is completed going East, I don’t think it will matter. At that point most people who want to walk east on Boston Mills will probably just walk on the road to the corner and skip walking the short piece of sidewalk on the other side of the road. 2. If the sidewalk is going to be installed on the west side of the road for 3 houses, there needs to be a better plan for drainage. All 3 houses often have standing water in the swale on the west side of the road. The plan I saw last night is to move the swale closer to the houses. This would mean a 3’ strip of lawn space next to the road and then the 5’ wide sidewalk with the swale on the house side of the sidewalk. The plan did not include installing proper drainage that would eliminate the standing water. As one of the homeowners affected by this, I do not want the standing water moved 8’ into the middle of our yard and closer to our house. That would be unacceptable and a reason for us to oppose the sidewalk moving forward. on Facebook Share I did attend the information meeting on 3/6. City Response- City staff is currently reviewing alternates solutions, costs and impacts for the sidewalk alignment on either side of the street along with the possibility of Lake Forest Drive realignment at the intersection with Boston Mills Road to alleviate the long crosswalk, sweeping curve from westbound Boston Mills Road onto Lake Forest Dr and other safety improvements at the intersection.
Question 2- . If the sidewalk is going to be installed on the west side of the road for 3 houses, there needs to be a better plan for drainage. All 3 houses often have standing water in the swale on the west side of the road. The plan I saw last night is to move the swale closer to the houses. City Response-The design of the sidewalk alignment and storm improvements is still ongoing and no final decision has been determined yet for the placement of the improvements. City staff will be evaluating each property during the design phase to verify that the drainage design will be improved and provide positive flow at impacted properties.

Share The city should seriously consider a Dutch-style raised crosswalk at the Chadbourne and Lake Forest Intersection, just like they have over at the WRA campus. It acts as a natural speed deterrent for drivers in this residential area and makes clear that cars are guests in the crosswalk, which is a pedestrian space, increasing pedestrian visibility and driver awareness. on Facebook Share The city should seriously consider a Dutch-style raised crosswalk at the Chadbourne and Lake Forest Intersection, just like they have over at the WRA campus. Share My home is part of the new sidewalk plan. While I'm glad there will be a walkway for pedestrians on Lake Forest Drive, I'm very concerned with the construction. Unlike the connecting Chadbourne Drive, there will be no curbs and no filled in drainage system. Our trees are very close to the street and it's hard to believe they won't be affected. Also, the small strip of grass between the street and sidewalk most likely will turn to mud. No curbs are my biggest concern as they provide additional safety and the "curb appeal" that every homeowner desires. I recommend waiting for a better budget (whenever that will be) and add a sidewalk just like Chadbourne and Atterbury. Also, as another budget option in place of a sidewalk, increase the police presence to discourage the speeding drivers on Lake Forest. Thanks for your consideration. on Facebook Share My home is part of the new sidewalk plan. ASD897 asked 8 months agoThank you for your interest in in the City’s Lake Forest Drive Sidewalk Project. Staff will review the request for improved drainage, spacing, and curbing as part of the sidewalk project.
In addition, the City’s Traffic Safety Committee will review on-going concerns with speeding along Lake Forest Drive to see what improvements can be implemented to deter speeding along this corridor, including increased Hudson Police enforcement.

Share I’m so happy to hear about this new sidewalk. We often walk along Lake Forest and the cars come by pretty fast at times. With a small child and a dog it can be a little nerve-racking. We live in the neighborhood and this will be a welcome addition. on Facebook Share I’m so happy to hear about this new sidewalk. Share I am thrilled that there will be a sidewalk added to Lake Forest Drive. I live on Chadbourne and walk often and the stretch along Lake Forest is perilous as many drivers use that road to shortcut or to get to the country club (and way too often I see cars entering or leaving the club that are driving way too fast). It will be far safer once that sidewalk is installed and I am glad the City is seeing to this project. We have lots of walkers, kids, elders, and folks walking dogs that will all be safer as a result of this project. on Facebook Share I am thrilled that there will be a sidewalk added to Lake Forest Drive.
