SR 303 Sidewalk Improvements (W. Case to Hudson Crossing Parkway)
Project Details
The City of Hudson is planning a new concrete sidewalk and storm water project along West Streetsboro Street (SR 303), between West Case Drive and Nicholson Drive. The proposed sidewalk will be located on the south side of the road and tie into the existing sidewalk near West Case Drive and end at the east side of Nicholson Drive. View the DRAFT plan here.
In addition, as a separate project, another sidewalk section between Nicholson Drive and Terex Road is scheduled for construction in 2024. View the DRAFT plan here. There will be no cost to homeowners for the construction of these sidewalks or storm.
Public Engagement
The City held a public information meeting on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Hudson City Hall.
If you could not attend the meeting, public input and comments will be accepted on this site (use Comment & Questions tab below) until Friday, March 8, 2024.
Project Costs
W. Streetsboro (W. Case to Nicholson) 5’ Concrete walk =$817,000
W. Streetsboro (Nicholson to Hudson Crossing Pkwy) 5' Concrete walk = $1,200,000
30” Storm Improvements=$875,000

Share I am against putting sidewalks on the north side of 303 versus south side. South side makes so much more sense. There is already a DEAD zone of 15 feet of non-usable ground slope including a SWAMP of cattails and garbage on the south side. Why not fill in the slope LIKE YOU ALREADY ARE and put sidewalks on the south ? We would be recapturing dead space, matching to the existing sidewalks ending at west Case, improving safety, and vastly improving the aesthetics and functionality! on Facebook Share I am against putting sidewalks on the north side of 303 versus south side. BrianMc asked 8 months agoWhile initial plans called for a sidewalk on the north side of the road between N. Westhaven Drive and W. Case Drive, following further review and City Council discussion, the sidewalk will now be installed on the south side. This change aims to better connect with existing subdivisions, including the Woods of Williamsburg and Westhaven Colony. Installation of a sidewalk on the north side will be considered for a future, separate project.

Share The residents of 6070 Heather Lane are very excited for the sidewalk project so that we can more safely access downtown Hudson without having to drive. That said, my husband and I feel very strongly about having some trees replanted alongside our property after the project is completed. The side of our house faces 303, and not only is the traffic loud, but there was a bad accident in which a truck hit the guardrail across from our house. It would be very easy for that to happen again and a vehicle hit our house or end up in our yard, possibly hitting us. I am a former ER nurse and my husband is a firefighter/paramedic, and we have seen many accidents as a result of cars hitting people mowing their grass or wrecking into their houses. For noise and safety purposes we are very hopeful that there will be trees planted upon completion of the project. Thank you for your consideration. on Facebook Share The residents of 6070 Heather Lane are very excited for the sidewalk project so that we can more safely access downtown Hudson without having to drive. Natalie Hiltbrand asked 9 months agoThe intersection of Heather Lane and W. Streetsboro Road (SR 303) will undergo two traffic safety improvements this year: 1) introduction of a new sidewalk along the south side of SR 303 and 2.) introduction of a new west-bound, left turn lane on SR 303 to Heather Lane. The upcoming improvements will provide safety improvements to traffic movements off SR 303 and provide pedestrian connectivity. With these improvements, the City will review the potential installation of new trees/landscaping at the intersection of SR 303/Heather Lane and recommends a meeting with the Westbridge Crossing Subdivision HOA to review the impacts at Heather Lane in further detail.

Share While I don't oppose the project - I wonder about the timing of completing the water line project and finishing up the installation of the driveway aprons, regrading and final seeding back of the area. Or will the sidewalk installation defer the work until the sidewalk phase. Originally the water line project was to wrapped in the spring and I see the sidewalk project can go as late as a fall finish. Seems to me these two projects could have been combined for an overall cost & schedule savings as there is much duplicated effort in each project. on Facebook Share While I don't oppose the project - I wonder about the timing of completing the water line project and finishing up the installation of the driveway aprons, regrading and final seeding back of the area. DDrummond asked 9 months agoThe Waterline Project will restore the disturbed areas affected by the waterline installation. Seeding will be applied to stabilize the site during this phase. Notably, driveways will be repaired with a concrete cap until the concrete aprons are reintegrated with the Sidewalk and Storm Project.
The SR 303 Trunk Waterline Project and the proposed Sidewalk Project are funded in different fiscal years, necessitating separate construction timelines. The SR 303 Waterline Project was originally scheduled for construction in early spring 2023, but was required to be rebid in the fall 2023 pushing back the construction schedule. During this same time, a new City Capital Budget was established that introduced the Storm Sewer Project in 2024 along with the new sidewalk project.

Share This is badly needed kids today have to take the back roads if they want to go downtown or walk or ride on 303 which is not safe. The main side road goes under the rail tracks which has a good amount of traffic too. It would be great to have a sidewalk connecting this side of the city to downtown so kids and family can use that is safe and is a faster way as well. on Facebook Share This is badly needed kids today have to take the back roads if they want to go downtown or walk or ride on 303 which is not safe. Share Have surveys or pedestrian count studies been done for all of these sidewalk projects? Many of the sidewalks on the city agenda seem to be at a very high cost per person projected to use them. Have the people in the Nicholson neighborhood been asked if they want, or will use the sidewalk? What if you discover that only a few people say yes, and it’s a huge waste of taxpayer money? What if you discover that the cost per interested person exceeds $10,000? $5,000? After about 3/4 of a mile, very few people are going to walk into town. on Facebook Share Have surveys or pedestrian count studies been done for all of these sidewalk projects? SBCLocal asked 9 months agoThe new sidewalk section along SR 303 was identified as part of the City’s 2021-2025 Sidewalk and Trail Master Plan, or Connectivity Plan. The Sidewalk and Trail Master Plan represents the continued effort to provide safe and practical community-wide non-vehicular connectivity in the City of Hudson. The potential alignments, ranking of alignments and estimated budgets for the project were identified through public input that were attended by residents, City Council members, Mayor and City staff in 2020. Upon completion of the public input, the information was compiled into the City’s Sidewalk and Trail Master Plan 2021-2025 that can be viewed here: https://www.hudson.oh.us/DocumentCenter/View/8992/Sidewalk-and-Trail-Master-Plan-2021-2025(External link).

Ayo asked 9 months agoThe addition of a left turn lane at 516 W. Streetsboro is not part of this project. A engineering traffic study will be required to verify that the introduction of a turn lane at this private driveway meets the Ohio Department of Transportation’s warrants for turn lanes. City staff will review the request for turn lanes at 516 W. Streetsboro Street with the City’s Traffic Safety Committee and follow up with this inquiry in a separate correspondence.

WestNeighbor asked 9 months agoPedestrian safety improvements will be incorporated into each sidewalk project. Improvements will range from the installation of painted, high visibility crosswalks, pedestrian crosswalk notification signs and the potential for Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), if warranted by a traffic study.
